NEW DELHI: Even as the Congress has started its organisational elections which would culminate by October 2022, the BJP has set three ambitious targets with a focus on the assembly polls to be held in five states early next year.
The three organisational targets set by the BJP during its national executive meet held in New Delhi on November 7 are formation of booth committees, appointment of panna pramukh (chiefs of page committees) and institutionalising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ at the booth level within six months and with a focus on the five poll-bound states.
The five states which would face elections in February-March next year are Uttar Pradesh (403 seats), Punjab (117 seats), Uttarakhand (70 seats), Manipur (60 seats) and Goa (40 seats).
BJP national president JP Nadda set these “ambitious organisational targets” for a giant leap of the party.
Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “When I am mentioning booth committees and page committees, it is obvious that the poll-bound states are a priority.”
In the very first national executive meet after Amit Shah was elected as the BJP president in 2014, he had set a target of winning assembly elections where the party had never won any. Of the names he had taken, the BJP has already accomplished some such as Assam, Tripura and other states of northeast.
Amit Shah had said one more thing which has now become a milestone for the BJP. He had said: “Utkarsh aana baaki hai.”
Nadda repeated Shah’s statement during the November 7 meet while adding two more targets.
He said there are 10.40 lakh polling stations in India. The BJP’s smallest and lowest unit is the booth committee. About 85 per cent booth committees have been formed.
The BJP national president has set a target of forming booth committees on all the 10.40 lakh booths by December 25, which happens to be the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the party’s iconic leader
Nadda has set two more targets. He said while experimenting with organisation, the Gujarat unit of the party has constituted “panna samiti” (page committees), which are beyond the booth committees.
As in the Election Commission‘s voters’ list, which consists of one page, the BJP’s Gujarat unit has formed committees whose names fit in one page.
The formation of page chiefs (panna pramukh) would be completed by April 6, 2022.
The third target is related to PM Narendra Modi’s monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, which, the BJP claims, has taken the shape of a people’s movement.
Pradhan said, “The PM does not speak on politics in the programme. He directly communicates with the people as the country’s leader. The people get inspired by his talks. They desperately wait for the last Sunday of every month for the programme to be aired.”
The BJP has resolved to give a structural and institutional form to ‘Mann Ki Baat’ at the booth level. Arrangements would be made for listening to the programme at the booth level. This would be accomplished by May 2022.
The BJP hopes that these three targets would help it in the forthcoming elections.
